Press Release:

July 6, 2010

MBR.ORG (Tom Nolette) and the Southern Maine Sporstzone (Lenny Holmes) are pleased to announce a collaborative effort between the two principals. Maine’s largest interactive sports media website and event company MBR and Maine’s largest privately owned basketball facility and event operator, the Sportszone, have teamed up to promote and organize amateur basketball tournaments, camps, clinics, instruction and more at the Sportszone in Saco and at other facilities around the state.

“I am excited to be a part of this,” said MBR.ORG’s Tom Nolette “It's something that many in this state have asked about for years, and for the two principals to get together and make this happen for the good of student-athletes in this state is pretty remarkable.”

The Southern Maine Sportszone, located in Saco, Maine is a 62,500 square foot indoor sports facility just off of the Maine Turnpike. The facility has 3 basketball courts in addition to a fitness facility, soccer fields and more. The Sportszone is the home of the AAU State Tournaments, leagues, instruction and more.

I think this is great for basketball in Maine said Sportszone’s Lenny Holmes. Tom and I have been doing this for a long time, with our combined efforts we should really be able to maximize opportunities for players throughout the state. With all the cutbacks going on at the school level, there is potentially a huge void for student athletes on the horizon; we are certainly hoping to fill the gaps for people.

For the first time, basketball teams and players will be able to utilize this resource for their basketball needs. The group will host amateur basketball events at the Sportszone and at other facilities around the state. This spring, MBR hosted events at SMCC, St, Joseph’s College, Bates College, UMaine and many high schools. “In the past, teams had to choose one group or the other for its basketball needs, and that made it difficult for teams. Now, they can utilize the resources of both groups and make it easier for basketball teams who are looking for games or other services” stated Tom Nolette

This is a state-wide effort with the Sportszone and many other facilities collaborating to enhance opportunities for instruction and play. Holmes added “this really is a win-win situation for everyone especially the young males and females who play basketball in Maine, more opportunities can only mean good things for their development as players.
